A kilt is a piece of tartan worn around the waist. But, a proper tartan kilt is typically accompanied by:
- A sporran is a tiny bag that is worn around the waist, and over the kilt. Sporran can be the Gaelic word that means purse.
- A kilt pin, an extremely heavy pin that is affixed to the flap that covers the outer edge of the kilt.
- Sgian dubh (pronounced skee-an-doo) is a dagger of small size that fits inside the socks.
