Kilt, knee-length skirt-like apparel which is worn by males as an essential part of the traditional national dress that is worn by the men of Scotland. (The primary aspect of Highland dress that is the most traditional male attire of Scotland is known plaid of rectangular pieces of fabric that is worn across the shoulders of the person wearing it.) Traditional Kilt is a piece of weaved yarn which is pleated for life with the exception of sections at the ends and wraps around the waist in a manner that pleats are arranged in the back of the wearer, and the flat, undulating ends are overlapping to create two layers at the front. The plaid and kilt are typically made of cloth, which is weaved with an interlocking pattern that is referred to as tartan.
